I am Catherine Harding, a qualified therapeutic counsellor registered with the British Association of Counsellors and Psychotherapists (BACP).
I hold a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology, a Diploma in Therapeutic Counselling and have Advanced Diploma training in Counselling Adolescents. I’ve worked with many young people transitioning from teen to adulthood and many adults re-evaluating where they are and wanting to make changes in their lives. Prior to working as a counsellor I worked in corporate HR and change management roles, including managing service departments, supporting teams through organisational transitions and individuals through career development and change.
My own experience of living with ADHD for many years before a late adult diagnosis has shaped my therapeutic approach and passion for this field. I know what it’s like to be neurodiverse in the corporate world and how we can struggle in working environments. I understand the challenges we can face in our personal relationships and I know what it is like to parent a neurodivergent child. As well as my personal understanding, my training as a counsellor has required learning and thinking about lots of different approaches to how we become who we are.
Our life experience and our genetic inheritance shapes us in important ways. It shapes how we look at the world, how we see ourselves, what we feel we can expect from others and importantly, how we cope with difficult feelings. All of this is fundamental to working therapeutically with neurodivergence like ADHD and autism. The combination of professional understanding and lived experience allows me to offer some extra insight into the array of issues neurodiverse people experience in their lives.
Neurodivergence can also make it more likely we experience other mental health challenges like anxiety, depression, OCD etc so I have incorporated a wide range of professional development training in related areas into my approach. Some of the additional training I’ve done has included working with ADHD, ADHD in women, anxiety, trauma, shame and imposter syndrome. I am experienced at working with LGBT+ issues and with fatigue conditions such as Chronic Fatigue / ME, Long Covid, stress and executive burnout.
I look forward to working with you and supporting you on your journey.
